Could be a bad strut that is hard to collapse grab the awning while out and try pushing in by hand.

Change polarities of the battery connection to the wire and see it retract or extends.
You also need to check the awning chord that is placed along with the screws on the awning rail.

After a couple tries we got the awning extended but the fabric at both ends is unsupported and droops down slightly so it looks like the awning is not fully extended but it is fully extended.
